Offers housing, healthcare, employment, and cash assistance. Also sign up for English classes, register children for school, etc. This should be your first stop in the process of resettling in Louisville.  

Catholic Charities of Louisville

Very similar to KRM. Offer housing, healthcare, employment, and cash assistance. Also help sign up for English classes, register children for school, etc. This should be your first stop in the process of resettling in Louisville. 

Social Security Office

You must obtain a social security card in order to be able to get a driver’s license, open a bank account, get employment, etc. Very important!

Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services

Family assistance, child care, vaccines, health departments, medical services, licenses, and more.

ID office of DMV

You can obtain your driver’s license here or regular ID. We strongly advise that you get one even if you do not have a car at the moment. This is the most common form of personal identification in the US and will be helpful in any type of transaction from renting an apartment to opening a bank account. Your Ukrainian license will work only for 6 months in USA and you will not be able to use it as identification document. You can have regular ID without driver’s license test and permission to drive that can be used official document in US.

They provide healthcare on a sliding scale and specialize in caring for low income, immigrant and refugee populations. They also offer some dental services.

UofL School of Dentistry

Provides dental care on a sliding scale, specialize in caring for low income, immigrant and refugee populations.

Ukrainian Dentist in Lousville: Bogdan Graboviy

He helps refugees and has his own insurance at the office.

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS)

This is Louisville’s school district. The application to register your child can be found at the link above. If you need help filling out this application, call the number above for assistance.

Department for Community Based Services

The department provides family support; child care; child and adult protection; eligibility determinations for Medicaid and food benefits; administration of an energy cost-assistance program, KTAP, and Medicaid insurance.
